Next phase of recording next week

Next week starts the next phase of the recording of the new album. So far it has went well, the recording consists at the moment of 6 songs and counting.

— I'm not sure how many songs I will record, but I've got a bunch that's good, at least at the sketching stage. How they all are going to sound when recorded is another story. It's always like that. Sometimes when you think you have written the best song ever it turns out to be the worst. A song can sound great in your head, but when it comes out and get "materialized" in the studio it may very well turn out that you just can't make it justice. Point is, the hit can be just that song you first thought you'll throw away, and vice versa. It all happens in the mix, sometimes even before when you start working on it, says jIM.

The plan is therefore to record all the material and then choose from there. The aim though is to put down at least ten songs for the release.

— Yeah, it's the classic album. 10 songs, not more, not less. I think it originates from the golden days of the vinyl record when a fullength album more or less always contained five songs per side. It may have been an audio related question (some say the vinyl record can only deliver the best audio with a certain amount of minutes per side to sound good / edit), but I actually think it's more of a convenience issue, and a intelligent plan to save material for forthcoming releases. I mean, how many are able to release a new album every year today when an album contains up to 20 or more songs in one shot haha? Better save some for a rainy day, sort of speak one could say!
